for Industrial Organizations

The term industrial fusion
refers to the integration of two or more industries. Technological
innovations and deregulation invite industrial fusion by enabling
the reciprocal supply of substitute resources and services, and opening
the way for two-way market entry. Industrial fusion unites different
industries under a single industrial classification, and bring previously
unrelated companies into direct competition with one another.
Industrial fusion is now common in major countries around the world,
and the phenomenon remains under study. In this book, a leading researcher
of industrial organizations in Japan brings to light the transformation
of Japanese industries by focusing on four industries that have served
as the foundation of the postwar Japanese economy the information
and telecommunications industry, the financial industry, the energy
industry, and the transportation industry. The book is based on extensive
research.
Industrial fusion a relatively new occurrence. The author has continuously
gathered economic and industrial data from his unique perspective
since the phenomenon first attracted his attention 20 years ago. He
brilliantly paints the behind-the-scenes picture of the Japanese economy
in this book based on that data, and fully analyzes industrial trends.
No other economist has written a book of this kind.
In this book, the author discusses the intense inter-company competition,
mergers, business tie-ups, and the corporate survival race in Japan.
He also explains why the companies that helped Japan become an economic
giant are now struggling, and offers his prescription for corporate
revitalization in the current rapidly changing business environment. |
